The company
The history of the company, a tale of a family’s love for a particular corner of Sicily, begins back in the 1950s. In 1959, brothers Girolamo and Nicolò Ditta and their wives Antonietta and Leonarda Bono, joined forces with the wives’ father, Agostino Bono, to establish the Bono & Ditta company. By focusing on the production of concentrated grape must and perfecting an innovative process for producing rectified concentrated must, it has since gone from strength to strength, with a growing market presence founded on a policy of constant research and development.
With 60 years of experience in the grape-processing industry, and with a new multi-purpose facility for the production of grape juices and a rigorous new quality control system, Bono & Ditta has earned the recognition and appreciation of all the key operators in the sector worldwide.
The land
Our ability to create natural, wholesome products of outstanding quality is tied to our love for Sicily, and when it comes to sourcing raw ingredients or planning the expansion of the company, it is our own local area that we turn to first. Over the years, this unbreakable bond has generated profits and other major benefits for both the company and the region.
Bono & Ditta has been able to make a significant contribution to the development of the local economy, something that is central to the ethos of the company, and close to the heart of both its founders and current directors, who are themselves a product of the same Sicilian soil.
Underpinning this relationship are the company’s policies, such as the adoption of strict environmental protocols, optimised consumption based on renewable resources and constant monitoring of environmental performance.
The facility
Located in ancient winemaking country, the Bono & Ditta production facility stretches over an area of over 60,000 m², with the two parts of the factory – a must production section and a juice production section – covering a total of 10,000 m².
The modern facility uses cutting edge technology and boasts two, autonomous aseptic packaging lines. The plant can produce up to 300,000 litres of concentrated must and juice per day, while there is warehousing capacity for around 20 million litres.
The in-house lab works closely with leading external providers to ensure comprehensive and constant monitoring of the production cycle, drawing on the expertise of expert technicians and cutting-edge technologies to ensure all products meet the company’s long-standing standards of quality and authenticity.

Rigorously selected raw ingredients processed with passion, for the finest products possible
Ours is a sector governed by a strict set of regulations that set a minimum standard that all operators have to meet. However, at Bono & Ditta we go further. Over the years, the company has implemented its own, comprehensive production management procedures and has invested extensively in its in-house laboratory, with experienced personnel and state-of-the-art instrumentation ensuring unrivalled standards of quality control. More recently, the company has successfully assimilated its systems to leading international standards, earning UNI EN ISO 9001 accreditation for its quality management systems and certification under the Food Safety System Certification scheme (FSSC). We have also obtained organic certification, including NOP equivalency, DEMETER certification for our production methods, as well as accreditation as a producer of musts for PGI-certified Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.
A dependable partner who shares your objectives
More than ever, in today’s market, there is a demand for products that retain the inherent natural qualities of the starting ingredients over time, and that are consistent from one batch to the next in terms of both quality and character. In sectors driven by constant innovation and evolution, finding the right production partner is essential. With a team of experienced specialists, Bono & Ditta is able to offer carefully tailored products to satisfy the specific requirements of each client. In addition, the resources at its disposal – not least in terms of research and development – mean it can also offer the possibility of launching pilot product lines on a large scale.
Research and development
It takes constant work and investment, including the recruitment of skilled and experienced staff, to earn a reputation as a dynamic company with the capacity to satisfy the emerging demands of the market and the needs of clients.
As part of its R&D work, Bono & Ditta has carried out extensive research on the composition and characteristics of the source ingredients it already uses, and other resources available in the area that are considered to have good potential. This has allowed the company to develop new liquid and powdered products for specific end uses in multiple sectors, from the nutraceutical industry to cosmetics.
Furthermore, the company’s commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of its operations has driven research aimed at optimising its production processes, including tests and research on the recuperation of by-products as a means to minimise environmental impact, as well as reductions in consumption, life cycle optimisation, and many other areas.
